André de Oliveira Macedo, widely known as André do Rap, is a Brazilian criminal whose legal history has attracted significant attention from Brazil’s courts and law-enforcement authorities. According to the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), he was convicted of international drug trafficking and received a sentence of 15 years, six months and 20 days in prison. The conviction was maintained by the STJ in October 2020.
Macedo was arrested in September 2019 in Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro. At the time, authorities were investigating his alleged involvement in an international drug-trafficking network. The case was connected to Operation Oversea, launched by the Federal Police in 2014.
In October 2020, Supreme Court Justice Marco Aurélio Mello granted a decision that resulted in Macedo's release. The decision was later suspended by Supreme Court President Luiz Fux, and the STF's plenary subsequently upheld the suspension and ordered the immediate restoration of his preventive detention.
Macedo was not located after leaving prison and has remained wanted. A September 2026 report by Agência Brasil said Brazilian authorities operating in Bolivia were also seeking André do Rap, but he was not located during that operation.
His legal history also includes other proceedings. In 2023, the STJ closed a separate police investigation after finding that evidence had been obtained through an unlawful search without prior judicial authorization. The decision concerned that specific investigation and did not erase the separate conviction for international drug trafficking.
Today, André do Rap remains one of the most publicly known Brazilian fugitives, with his name appearing in court records and official statements concerning his criminal proceedings and search by authorities.
